Sutherlin woman killed in crash at Santiam Junction

SANTIAM JUNCTION, Ore. - A Sutherlin woman died in a crash on Santiam Junction Monday morning when the pickup she was in collided nearly head-on with another vehicle, Oregon State Police said.

State police identified the victim as Dana Metzler, 63, of Sutherlin. She died at the scene.

The crash happened just after 10 a.m.

The investigation found that Metzler was in a westbound 1993 Ford F250 driven by Willard Mezler II, 57, of Sutherlin. The Ford turned into the path of an oncoming 2001 Toyota Tacoma driven by Lucas Ettinger, 33, of Salem, troopers said.

The two vehicles collided nearly head-on, troopers said.

The two drivers suffered minor injuries, state police said.

The crash closed Highway 20 for about an hour. One lane was opened to traffic for two hours until both lanes were reopened.

The Sisters - Camp Sherman Fire Department, Black Butte Ranch Police Department and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted state police at the scene.
