Schools lock down as suspect runs from police

EUGENE, Ore. - Three public schools locked down Tuesday morning as police pursued a suspect who ran from the scene of a traffic stop.

Malabon Elementary School on Taney Street went into lockdown at 8:30 a.m. as a precaution as the suspect ran from police on Barger Driver a few blocks away, according to preliminary details from police and school officials.

Cascade Middle and Willamette High schools also went into a modified locked down. That means the kids are free to move about the building but exterior doors are locked to limit access to the school building.

The lockdown was lifted later Tuesday morning.

Police stopped the suspect vehicle for reckless driving. The suspect ran away on foot, and police learned the vehicle might have been stolen.

The suspect description is not yet fully developed, only a white male in his 20s with a brown hat and sunglasses.

No word yet on whether the suspect is in custody.
