Roseburg woman dead after car rolls off road into river
EDDYVILLE, Ore. -- A Roseburg woman and her passenger are dead, after their car rolled off of Highway 20 and into the Yaquina River on Sunday morning.
Officials said a 2000 Chevy Impala was heading east on the highway when at about 11:10 a.m. Sunday the driver lost control in a sharp corner about 6 miles west of Eddysville and went off the road's shoulder.
State police said the car rolled down an embankment near milepost 17, stopping on its top submerged in the river.
Officials say the driver, Abigail Patricia Emerson, 21, of Roseburg, and her passenger, Christopher J. Kazanski, 24, of Madison, Wisconsin, were both unconscious when paramedics arrived on scene. They were pronounced dead by medical staff after being taken to Good Samaritan Regional in Corvallis.
The Oregon Dept. of Transportation closed the highway to one lane while law enforcement investigated the crash.
