Right whale dolphin washes ashore on Manzanita Beach
MANZANITA BEACH, Ore. —
A right whale dolphin washed ashore on the Oregon Coast last Saturday.
The dolphin, a 5.5-foot female, was picked up by the Seaside Aquarium and transferred to Portland State University for a necropsy. Unfortunately, preliminary results were inconclusive.
Right whale dolphins usually live much further south and in deeper offshore waters, according to the Seaside Aquarium, and likely moved north due to warmer water periods.
Since 1994, the Seaside Aquarium has only seen four of these kinds of dolphins.
