Reedsport police chief dies of 'sudden illness'
REEDSPORT, Ore. -- Chief of the Reedsport Police Department Mark Fandrey passed away unexpectedly on Saturday.
Chief Fandrey's death was because of a "sudden illness", an official with the Reedsport PD said.
Mark Fandrey took over as Reedsport's chief of police in 2010 and has worked in law enforcement for over 21 years.
Before coming to Reedsport, Fandrey worked at Toledo PD as a patrol officer and sergeant before serving four years as their chief of police.
The following is a statement from Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin:
The law enforcement community is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Chief Mark Fandrey. Chief Fandrey was a dedicated professional who cared deeply for the citizens of Reedsport and the men and women of the Reedsport Police Department. Chief Fandrey will be greatly missed.
The Sheriff's Office will offer any assistance necessary to the city of Reedsport, and to the police department, to help them through this difficult time.
