Rare double funnel cloud spotted during Tuesday's thunderstorms

BURLINGTON, Wash. -- The skies were a bit angry over Western Washington Tuesday as a cold, unstable air mass accompanied a trough of low pressure, but perhaps nowhere near as angry as the skies were near Burlington.

A cloud deck there spawned not just one -- but two funnel clouds!

The double funnels were spotted around 1:45 p.m. near the Burlington Airport, according to witness Brad Christie.

The funnels didn't appear to reach ground and there were no reports of any problems.

Double funnels are rare, but not unheard of. There have been many sightings over the years of multiple waterspouts, including this photo taken off the Bahamas Islands by Dr. Joseph Golden with NOAA:
