EUGENE, Ore. - A man who beat up his friend when his friend found him in bed with the friend's girlfriend will serve 7 1/2 years in prison in a plea deal reached Wednesday morning.
Lyle James Hurlburt, 38, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss charges of attempted murder and second-degree assault.
The victim has required surgery to repair his face, prosecutors said.
The beating came when the victim found Hurlburt in bed with the victim's girlfriend. The victim and Hurlburt were friends, and Hurlburt was dating the victim's ex-wife at the time, prosecutors said.
