Police: Wrong-way driver arrested after head-on crash
EUGENE, Ore. - Police arrested the man accused of driving drunk the wrong way and causing a head-on crash, injuring himself and two others.
Bryan Andrew Bierce, 25, of Fresno, Calif., faces two counts of second degree assault, DUII and reckless driving. Bierce is an economics major at the University of Oregon.
Police arrested him Monday.
The crash happened early Sunday morning on Beltline near River Road. Investigators said Bierce's Saab was going the wrong way when it hit a Suzuki head-on.
The driver of the Suzuki, 60-year-old Danny Thomas Jones, and his passenger, Chanreuang Jones, 58, were both injured. They were returning home to Sandy from Florence.
The crash investigation kept the highway closed until just after 11 a.m. Sunday, more than 6 hours after it happened.
