Police: Victim hit with pepper spray, hammer overcomes attacker, holds him for police

EUGENE, Ore. - A 22-year-old man faces criminal charges after assaulting a man with pepper spray and a hammer Thursday morning, Eugene Police say.

Despite being injured, the 55-year-old victim managed to turn the tables on the suspect and hold him until police arrived.

Officers arrested Andrew William Hart Beebe on charges of Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of Mace in the 2nd Degree, and Theft 3.

Police responded to a call at 8:53 a.m. Thursday about a fight between two men in the 2100 block of W. 12th Avenue.

Officers arrived and found the victim holding the suspect down.

The investigation found that Beebe came to the house looking for another man he believed would be there, police said.

The victim allowed Beebe inside - only to have the younger man attack him with pepper spray and a hammer, police said. Beebe also had a CO2 pistol.

Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Beebe has been booked into the Lane County Jail.
