Police: Springfield school principal reported for suspicious behavior in 2007
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- There is new information about Michael Fisher, the long-time director of the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield.
According to Springfield Police Lt. Scott McKee, in 2007 police received a report of suspicious behavior involving Fisher.
McKee says further investigation revealed that Fisher had sexually abused a student starting when she was 14 and it continued into adulthood.
Friday morning, we talked to Springfield School District spokesperson Jenna McCulley.
She says the current school administration was first informed of the suspected abuse in late January, when an A3 staff member brought concerns to the district's human resource director.
Fisher was placed on administrative leave on January 31.
He committed suicide the following day.
Lt. McKee says Fisher never admitted to the allegations and no other students have come forward to report abuse.
The case is considered closed.
The Springfield School District says they’re encouraging students to alert them if they have any concerns.
