Police seize loaded AR-15 from felon on probation for gun crime
EUGENE, Ore. - Police seized an AR-15 assault rifle loaded with a 30-round magazine and two other firearms from a felon out on probation for a gun crime after the man threatened a local business, police said.
Scott Alan Gorman, 45, of Eugene was arrested on a probation violation and on three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The investigation started when a local adult care facility contacted police about Gorman. They said he had threatened the facility over his "displeasure with services being provided to a family member," police said.
Gorman's probation officer visited where Gorman lives. Gorman is currently on probation for unlawful use of a weapon.
After talking to other people who live there, the officer became convinced that Gorman had guns in the home.
Two Eugene police detectives responded to the home and talked to Gorman, gaining his consent to retrieve the guns, police said.
Officers found the AR-15 set to "fire" with a loaded 30-round magazine, plus four additional loaded 30-round magazines for the assault rifle; as well as two other firearms.
Investigators are trying to determine how Gorman was able to purchase the AR-15 assault rifle. If you have any useful information regarding this case, police ask you to contact Detective Chris White at (541) 682-5376.
Police declined to name the care facility that called police about Gorman.
