Police: Man with knife threatens patrons at Moby Dick's in Newport

NEWPORT, Ore. - An intoxicated man who was refused service at a bar pulled a knife, threatening to slit a customer's throat or stab other customers, the Newport Police Department said.

Katwel Kinsio, 26, of Micronesia later resisted arrested after officers caught up with him, according to police.

Witnesses told police Kinsio was heavily intoxicated at Moby Dick's Seafood and Spirts. After being denied service at the bar, Kinso became belligerent and threatened to throw a beer bottle at the crowd, according to police.

After a customer removed the beer bottle from Kinsio's hand, he pulled a fixed-blade knife from his pocket.

Witnesses told police Kinsio aggressively advanced towards a female customer, threatening to cut her throat.

Another customer pushed Kinsio to the ground to halt the attack, police said.

Kinsio got back up and pointed the knife at other customers, threatening to stab them, police said.

Kinsio left the bar and walked south on Hwy 101 to SW Alder Street, where Newport Police Officers approached him and ordered him to stop.

Kinsio refused to cooperate, and advanced towards the officers, police said. He resisted efforts to restraining him but was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody., police said.

Officers searched the area and located a knife in the shrubbery near where Kinsio was apprehended.

Police booked Kinsio into the Lincoln County Jail on 10 counts of Recklessly Endangering; 10 counts of Menacing; Recklessly Endangering; Disorderly Conduct; Resisting Arrest; Harassment; and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. His bail was set at $65,000.
