Police: Inmate dies after being found unresponsive in jail cell
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - The medical examiner is investigating what killed an inmate found unresponsive in his cell early Saturday morning, Springfield Police said.
Police arrested Tyson Jon Christian, 42, on a charge of third degree theft from a liquor store and booked him into the Springfield Municipal Jail Thursday, October 15.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, jail staff found Christian unresponsive in his cell.
Springfield Police said the on-duty jail medic and jail personnel immediately administered CPR and used an automated external defibrillator in an attempt to revive Christian.
Springfield Fire and Life Safety responded to the jail. Paramedics worked on Christian for about a half hour in an attempt to revive him, police said.
Christian had been housed in a single person cell.
The Lane County Medical Examiner's office took possession of the body and will be conducting an investigation into the manner and cause of death, police said.
