Police find car wash burglary suspect in garbage bin

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A man ran from police Thursday as officers attempted to contact him about a burglary at a nearby car wash.

Officers found the man hiding in a garbage bin.

The investigation started after a burglary May 6 at the Thurston Car Wash on 58th Street.

Someone broke out a window and stole the cash register and several cases of air freshener.

A surveillance camera captured footage of the suspect. Police released the video on social media.

On Thursday, detectives got a tip about the identity of the suspect.

Officers went to a home near the car wash and attempted to find the man. That's when he took off and hid, police said.

Officers arrested Antonio Gomez, 21, on 3 counts of Burglary 2, 1 count of Criminal Mischief 2, 2 counts of Theft 2 and 1 count of Theft 3.

Detectives were able to recover some of the stolen property, police said.
