Police: Car hit, killed man pushing wheelchair across Main Street in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Bystanders performed CPR on a man who was hit by a car as he tried to cross Main Street Thursday evening.
Medics arrived and took the man to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, where he died from his injuries, Springfield Police said.
Police belive the man is a 63-year-old Springfield man. He has no permanent address, police said.
The fatal crash happened just before 8 p.m. near 63rd and Main streets.
Police said the man was pushing a wheelchair across the road when he was hit by a car driven by a 20-year-old man.
The driver stopped, tried to help the man and cooperated with investigators, police said.
The victim wore dark clothing. There wasn't a pedestrian crossing or signal where the man was crossing, police said.
