Police arrest man, seize 31 pounds of meth during I-84 traffic stop

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police on Friday arrested a man who they said had 31 pounds of methamphetamine in his car.

The estimated street value of the meth is $1.5 million.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Interstate 84 Friday afternoon. The three people gave officers consent to search the vehicle, police said.

A K-9 drug dog named Nikko alerted the officers of drugs in a suitcase in the trunk. The occupants of the vehicle all denied owning the suitcase.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the suitcase and found the meth inside, police said.

Police arrested Nestor Catarino Zazueta-Valenzuela, 36, and took him to the Multnomah County Jail. Zazueta-Valenzuela is charged with possession and distribution of meth.

Police said the other two people in the vehicle were released and not charged with a crime.
