Plywood mill catches fire in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Crews spent Friday cleaning up after a large fire started in a Springfield plywood mill earlier that morning.

Firefighters were called out to the Pacific States Plywood Mill near 28th and Main St. just after 2 a.m. Friday when workers at the building reported a structure fire.

Officials at the scene said the building suffered severe water damage, however firefighters saved the structure.

"When we arrived we had a significant fire inside the mill, in a area they called the 'hot press'," said Eugene Battalion Fire Chief Dana Burwell.

Investigators are still looking into finding an official cause for the fire.
