Pedestrian struck by semi, killed on I-5 in Roseburg
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Oregon State Police are on the scene of a fatal crash on I-5 in Roseburg.
State police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in the southbound lanes of I-5 at milepost 124.
Lt. Doug Ladd of OSP says that at about 11:45 am, a man stepped out into traffic.
The pedestrian man hit was identified as Ronald Page, 55, of Roseburg.
State police say witnesses told them the man appeared to make several attempts to cross the southbound lanes of the freeway, and a number of vehicles made evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting him prior to the crash.
A 2012 Freightliner Truck and trailer being driven by Alvin Chandra, 29, of Elk Grove, California, was unable to avoid the man, state police said.
Chandra is cooperating with the investigation, according to authorities.
