Owner of club destroyed by fire: 'I feel sick to my stomach'
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Ben Bass, the owner of a Roseburg nightclub that was completely destroyed in a fire overnight, spoke about what he lost in the blaze and where he is going from here.
A Douglas County Sheriff's deputy noticed smoke coming from the room of the Chrome Nightclub on Diamond Lake Boulevard around 1:43 a.m.
Firefighters responded and battle the flames for over 2 hours before they were able to bring the fire under control.
Bass says the whole ordeal makes him ill, and he is worried for his employees. "I feel sick to my stomach," Bass said. "A lot of employees are going to suffer because of this."
Bass says he opened the business in March, after spending quite a bit to remodel the building just how he wanted it.
The structure, valued over $169,000, appears to be a total loss, the fire department said. The fire destroyed the contents of the building and heavily damaged a limo parked out front. "A lot of alcohol, new stereo equipment, new carpet, new flooring, even the felt on the pool tables (was lost)," Bass said. "We built an auxiliary bar in there."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
