Oregon State Police names officers assaulted at Florence Municipal Jail
FLORENCE, Ore. – Friday, Oregon State Police released the names of the two officers “seriously assaulted” at the Florence Municipal Jail. The officers were injured Monday while attempting to release a man from custody, Oregon State Police said.
Oregon State Police said both officers are employed by Florence Police Department. They say one officer, Ken Larson, has been with Florence PD for 24 years and the other, Stephanie Sansom, has been employed for one year.
The 40-year-old man the officers were attempting to release was taken to the hospital with the officers. There, he was pronounced dead, police said.
The man’s identity and cause of death are not yet known.
Monday, police said there is no further threat or danger to the public.
Tuesday, the Lane County District attorney said additional information on the two injured officers and the man who died will not likely be released until next week.
The district attorney’s office told Lt. Cari Boyed the officers must be interviewed before they can release any more information.
