SUTHERLIN, Ore. - Dennis Weathers set a new powerlifting record last weekend.
Weathers, 60, bench pressed 320 pounds, a new American Powerlifting Association for his age and weight class.
"I went after a world record in the first lift and made it," he said.
Weathers hasn't always been a fitness enthusiast.
"About two and a half years ago, my appendix burst," he told KPIC News. "I was laying there in the ICU and then the hospital for several days, and I decided it was time to get in good shape."
Weathers works out at Anytime Fitness in Sutherlin. He started competing when he realized he may have what it takes to win.
