Oregon historical group says finances have improved

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) The Southern Oregon Historical Society says its finances are in better shape, and it's preparing some expansion efforts this year.

The group has struggled since 2007, when Jackson County ended support.

The city of Jacksonville helped out, taking over four buildings that needed work, and a member of the board has extended the due date on a line of credit.

The group also sold artifacts not related to Southern Oregon to help pay for preservation of its collection.

The Medford Mail Tribune reports the group's annual budget of $450,000 is paying its bills.

It has a full-time staff of three and a part-time staff of eight, with 150 to 200 volunteers.
