Motorcyclist dies after crash with semi truck
GRANTS PASS, Ore. -- A motorcyclist was hit and killed by a semi truck Thursday morning after police say he crossed the center line of Highway 199 south of Grants Pass.
Officials said that Randall Kent Lubin, 56 of Selma, Oregon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi truck, Lee Conner, 59 of Springfield, was unhurt by the head-on crash, state police said.
According to a report, Lubin was driving his Harley Davidson north on Hwy 199 when at around 8 a.m. he crossed the center line near milepost 14.
State police said that Conner couldn't avoid the motorcycle. His semi stopped about 100 yards down the road after impact, officials reported.
Crash investigators are still looking into what caused Lubin to cross into oncoming traffic. They said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The highway was blocked for about four hours while state police worked the crash scene with ODOT and the rural/metro fire department.
Officials said that Conner was transporting a load of building supplies for Weatherly's Inc., headquartered in Eugene.
