LANE CO., Ore. -- A motorcyclist crashed into a tree Friday night while trying to outrun law enforcement on a forest service road near Blue River Reservoir, Oregon State Police said.
The man, later identified as Jeremy Woody, 26, of Asheville, North Carolina, had some minor injuries from the crash.
The chase started at around 6 p.m. when the OSP sergeant tried to pull Woody over for not wearing a helmet. Officials said the man sped off, and the sergeant lost sight of the motorcycle after about a minute.
About five minutes later the sergeant reported finding out the motorcycle had crashed into a tree. A Forest Service officer arrived to help the sergeant find the man by following footprints that led into the woods.
The U.S. Forest Service officer helped police track the man's trail to a campsite off US Service Road 175, State Police said.
Woody's injuries were cleared by paramedics before he was booked at the Lane County Jail for felony attempt to elude on a vehicle, misdemeanor attempt to elude on foot and reckless driving.
