SUTHERLIN, Ore. - A man missing since last week was found dead, the victim of an apparent car accident, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
Family members reported Randall Sifers, 54, of Sutherlin missing on August 11, 2014.
The family reported they had not had contact with Sifers since August 7 when they spoke to him by phone.
The Sheriff's Office began an investigation and obtained cellular data from Sifers' cell phone company indicating that Sifers' cell phone was turned on and was possibly in the Mount Scott area.
The data provided did not pinpoint the location; it only provided a general area which in this case was about 251 square miles, the sheriff's office said.
At about 1:40 p.m. on August 12, one of Sifers' family members spotted Sifers' vehicle down in a gully off of Gassy Creek Road about 7.4 miles up from Rock Creek Road, near the Mount Scott Lookout.
The body of Sifers was found outside the vehicle. The sheriff's office said it appears that the vehicle left the roadway, rolled down into the gully and ejected Sifers.
