VENETA, Ore. - A man shot and killed himself after being stopped by state police Easter Sunday on Highway 126, 5 miles west of Veneta.
The Lane County Sheriff's Office will investigate the man's death at the request of Oregon State Police.
The man's identity has not been released.
According to first reports, an Oregon State Police sergeant stopped a car for speeding around 1:22 p.m. Sunday.
As the trooper got out of his patrol car, the vehicle sped off and crashed into a ditch and tree.
The state trooper found the man alone in the car, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, state police said.
