Man sprays fire extinguisher in store: 'His feet were hot'
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The heat is really starting to get to some people in Roseburg, including a man who is behind bars after some unusual behavior at Big Lots Monday night.
Customers go to Big Lots for a variety of merchandise, but the item Nicholas Ryan Mitchell was after wasn't for sale: a fire extinguisher. "He grabbed it off of the wall and sprayed it in the store," said Roseburg Police Sgt. Jeff Eichenbusch.
Eichenbusch says there wasn't a fire, but Mitchell was feeling the heat. "He claimed that his feet were hot," said Eichenbusch.
He says the 32-year-old transient made a mess with the spray. "At least one of the customers complained about getting some of the particulate in her eye."
He says the substance that comes out of a fire extinguisher can cause skin or eye irritation. "If you were to inhale the substance, that would obviously be a concern."
As for Mitchell, police found him across the street and brought him to jail.
Police have charged Mitchell with criminal mischief in the third degree and disorderly conduct in the second degree.
