OAKLAND, Ore. -- Sutherlin police say an officer fired his weapon at a man, and another used his Taser to get him into custody after a disturbance in Oakland Monday night.
Sutherlin officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Pine Street in Oakland just after 7:15 pm Monday, for a reported domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they said they found Marshall Winfield Lanier, 50, inside one of the bedrooms in the home.
Police say Lanier told them he had a gun, and refused to show them his hands.
Authorities say Lanier made a movement toward an area next to him, and that's when an officer fired a shot at the man.
The bullet missed Lanier, and the other officer used his Taser to subdue him.
Lanier was taken into protective custody pending a mental exam.
The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was called in to investigate, and the two Sutherlin officers were placed on administrative leave, which is the departments policy any time there is an officer-involved shooting.
