Man identified in fatal Grants Pass single-vehicle crash

GRANTS PASS, Ore.— The preliminary investigation following a single-vehicle fatal crash on Highway 260 revealed that one man, identified as Luther Masumoto, 70, from Grants Pass, was killed near milepost 13 in Grants Pass.

Masumoto, who was operating a black Chevrolet pickup, was traveling northbound on Highway 260 when he attempted to pass a dump truck that was traveling in the same direction. The driver-side tired of the Chevrolet entered the ditch, and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Masumoto crossed both lanes of traffic and entered the northbound embankment, striking a tree. The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Highway 260 was reduced to one lane for approximately 2 hours following the crash.
