Man dies in crash driving the wrong way on I-5 near state border
ASHLAND, Ore. -- A man died after he hit another driver head-on late Friday night while driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 about 10 miles from the Oregon-California border, state police said.
The driver of the other car is expected to survive.
Crash investigators said that Derek Massey, 41 of Talent, Ore. was driving his Pontiac Vibe north in the southbound lanes.
State officials reported that just after 11:30 p.m. Friday, Massey collided with a white Ford Expedition driven by Ryan Thompson, 36-year-old California man, at milepost 11.
Emergency responders pronounced Massey dead at the scene. Thompson sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, police said.
Police said they are still investigating the crash.
