MAPLETON, Ore. - A logger from Springfield died Tuesday in what investigators suspect was a fall, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office received a report just before 9 a.m. of a logging death about 20 miles east of the junction of Highway 126W and Highway 36.

"Lane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded with Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue to the location," the sheriff's office said. "Eugene Mountain Rescue and Lane County Ground Search and Rescue, specialized units of Lane County Search and Rescue, responded with several volunteers to assist with the recovery as the deceased was approximately 200 yards down a steep embankment."

The sheriff's office identified the deceased as 35-year-old Arturo Toral-Pacheco. The sheriff and county medical examiner will investigate his death.

"Our thoughts go out to Toral-Pacheco’s family and friends after this tragic incident," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
