Logger from Coos Bay fatally injured

COQUILLE, Ore. - A log snapped and hit a 30-year-old man in the chest on Friday, causing fatal injuries, the Coos County Sheriff's Office said.

Daniel Garcia-Vences of Coos Bay died at the logging site about 45 miles northeast of Coquille.

He was working as a choker setter for Millicoma Logging when a log twisted and broke at a 90 degree angle, hitting him in the chest, the sheriff's office said.

Paramedics from the Lookingglass/Tenmile Fire Districts attempted CPR prior to the arrival of the Coos County Sheriff's deputies, to no avail.

The Coos County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the exact cause of death.
