EUGENE, Ore. - Forecasters are uncertain about the intensity of a wintry mix of snow, sleet or freezing rain in the forecast for the Friday morning commute in southern and central Willamette Valley.
The event will likely be short-lived and more pronounced in the Portland area, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
"Precipitation will probably begin as light snow sometime between 3 a.m. and and 8 a.m.," forecasters said in a special weather statement Thursday. "Any snow will be brief and could transition to a sleet and snow mix.
"There is a slight chance of brief freezing rain during the morning, mainly for the central valley. The winter mix will change rapidly to rain sometime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m."
