EUGENE, Ore. -- Tattoo artists from around the country as well as local artists have joined together in Eugene this weekend to celebrate tattoo culture and to tattoo as many people as possible.
The 5th annual Oregon Ink Tattoo Convention was at the Eugene Hilton & Conference Center. The 3-day event began at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31 and will end Sunday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m.
"There are plenty of artists here," said event coordinator, Kevin Rasmussen. "Only about half have set appointments, so there is a lot of room for walk-ins."
According to Rasmussen, the artists offer a wide variety of styles and most of the artists are offering special deals at the convention.
"In Lane County ... we have some of the best tattoo artists in the country," said Bill Daniels, the MC for Oregon Ink's event for the past 4 years. "There is no better place to see every artist than right here. Come down, see what they do, how they do it and if you decide you want to get something, do it today."
This is the first year the convention has been hosted at the Hilton; in past years it was held at the Lane County Fair Grounds.
"It's a little more elegant, high class, and better hospitality," Rasmussen said of the new location. "Come down have a good time, have a few beers," said Rasmussen, "we have after parties both nights, it's gonna be a good time."
