House fire kills woman in Albany

ALBANY, Ore. - Patti Reed saw flames shooting out of the bedroom window of a neighbor's home Thursday before fire trucks arrived on scene.

Passersby pulled 2 people from the burning house on Geary Street.

One of the two victims - Kimberly Burks, 45 - died at the scene.

"I was freaking out because I knew there were people in there sleeping and then when I see the flames shooting out really really bad, I didn't even think the person was even going to make it," Reed said. "I just hope to God he does."

Neighbors said a husband and wife lived at the house but police wouldn't comment on the second victim.

The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms is involved in the investigation. Police wouldn't comment on why.

"There's nothing to make us believe that foul play was involved," said Captain Eric Carter with the Albany Police Department, "but due to the nature of their being a death involved in the fire we take that seriously so there's investigators from our police department, fire department, and also an investigator from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms to lend a hand so we can get a sense of what happened."
