Grass fire near Riddle mill may be related to vehicle activity, officials say
DOUGLAS COUNTY -- The Douglas Forest Protective Association responded to a couple fires over the weekend.
In Riddle, the Pruner Road Fire started around 11:20 a.m. Saturday morning. Firefighters from DFPA and Riddle Volunteer Fire Department responded to the natural cover fire on the hillside behind D.R. Johnson Lumber Company in Riddle.
Crews arrived on scene and found a grass fire burning between two roads that was spreading at a moderate rate of speed.
Firefighters stopped the spread at 1/4 acre of grass and brush and remained on scene until 1 p.m. Saturday mopping up. A preliminary investigation indicated that the fire may be related to vehicle activity in the area.
Elsewhere, DFPA responded to the Callahan Road Fire around 1 a.m. Sunday. The natural cover fire was reported on Callahan Road, 10 miles west of Roseburg, near the end of the pavement.
Firefighters from Douglas County Fire District #2 arrived on scene and contained the fire to two large trees.
Crews from DFPA also responded and completed mop up operations. The cause is currently under investigation.
