Glenwood redevelopment project on hold

SPRINGFIELD - Plans to transform a portion of Glenwood into a riverfront community are on hold after a development company pulled out of the project.

The Portland based Apex Investment Group had agreed to help remake a 48-acre pocket of northeast Glenwood but backed out after getting the results of a city-funded study that said local market conditions would not support a mix of housing, shops and offices.

Springfield city officials, however, say there's still hope.

"We've got some chances of doing that still and those specific development opportunities don't go away. They still change over a period of time and new developers might be involved with them," said John Tamulonis, Springfield's Community Development Manager

The Springfield Economic Development agency will meet next month to discuss options for development.
