French authorities investigate Eugene 2021 World Outdoor Track bid
EUGENE, Ore. -- Eight months after being awarded the 2021 World Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Eugene bid is under investigation by French authorities.
TrackTown USA president Vin Lananna says there is nothing shady about the bid and they are focused on 2016.
A lot of the suspicion came when Eugene was awarded the bid without going through the usual bidding process, but it's not the first time that's been done.
Lananna said their 2021 bid was identical to their 2019 bid, and he thinks all this noise will soon go away.
"This community did a great job and that's why you have the 2021 world championships here. And all of the other noise around it ... I'm sure it will all settle down."
The IAAF has stood by their decision to award the 2021 bid to Eugene and told CNN Sports they will re-open the bid if any corruption is uncovered by the French.
Lananna said Thursday he hasn't been contacted by French authorities conducting the investigation.
