Former Winston mayor jailed, found guilty of online sexual corruption of child

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The former mayor of Winston is behind bars after a trial in Douglas County Circuit Court Thursday.

According to an official with Myrtle Creek Police, 72-year-old Kenneth Lewis Barrett was found guilty on all counts of charges related to online sexual corruption of a child. He was placed in custody pending sentencing.

Barrett was arrested in Myrtle Creek on March 19, 2017, when he arrived at a location after arranging to meet who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. Instead, Myrtle Creek Police were waiting as part of an online sting.

Barrett was the mayor of Winston at the time of his arrest.

In court Thursday, he was found guilty of online sexual corruption of a child in the first and second degrees, and unlawful possession and concealment of a firearm, according to Douglas County Jail records.
