EUGENE, Ore. - From the right vantage point, the fog shrouding the Willamette Valley ebbs and flows like waves in the ocean.
KVAL News reporter Chris Liedle hiked Spencer Butte on Tuesday and got a look at the fog layer.
Using a timer, he created a timelapse video that shows how the fog flows around the hills of western Oregon.
The National Weather Service expects the fog layer to break up Thursday or Friday this week.
Inversion layers that trap clouds in the Willamette Valley are not uncommon in January, but this year's inversions have smothered Eugene more than usual.
