First Friday Artwalk: 'We want to educate the public about art'

EUGENE, Ore. – The wind and rain did not deter art lovers from getting out for the first Friday Artwalk.

Patrons filled the New Zone Gallery; the first stop on the walking tour.

Guests viewed Ann Danby’s work as well as the work of dozens of other artists.

The walk is part of the monthly art celebration put on by the Lane Arts Council.

“Basically, we want to educate the public about art. It's a great way to get some one-on-one too because the artists are actually here, you can go up to a piece and actually ask them about that piece so it's a way to get some arts education for adults,” said Jessica Watson, First Friday Artwalk coordinator.

Twenty-six different businesses and organizations took part in the artwalk.

There was also live music, food and entertainment.

If you’re interested in joining the next one, the Lane Arts Council holds a different walk on the first Friday of every month.
