Fire gear stolen from Lane County Task Force
BROOKINGS, Ore. (KVAL) - The Lane County Task Force that was sent to fight the Chetco Bar Fire near Brookings has reported that someone stole some of their equipment on Saturday morning.
Crews from several agencies were sent to Brookings last Friday to help in the firefighting efforts, but after they arrived, officials say that someone ransacked their vehicles while they were asleep.
Coburg Fire Chief Chad Minter says that this happened sometimes between midnight and 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, while the firefighters were camped out in sleeping bags.
He says the crew was able to get some replacement supplies and get out to the fire lines.
Minter says the total dollar amount of the gear stolen has yet to be determined.
