Fire destroys large hangar at North Bend Airport

NORTH BEND, Ore.-- The large historic hangar at the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport is no more after a large fire destroyed it early Tuesday morning.

Fire crews responded to a large fire at the North Bend Airport to the southeast of the passenger terminal just after midnight.

The building was fully engulfed in flames by 1:00 a.m., and minutes later, the building would totally collapse.

Fire crews from across Coos County were called in to help fight the blaze.

Because of high winds in the area, fire crews had to focus on fighting the fire and keeping nearby buildings wet because embers were flying across the airport towards other buildings during the fire.

Power lines were also down because of high wind and the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

This is an on-going story, and we will bring you more information as we get it.
