Fire burns former restaurant building in Florence

FLORENCE, Ore. -- Firefighters battled a blaze Thursday evening at a commercial building in Florence that was previously a Chinese restaurant.

At 5:56 p.m., Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the fire at 1073 Highway 101.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke coming from the building.

According to a Yelp listing, the Chinese restaurant has been permanently closed for months.

Approximately 30 firefighters responded, including crews from Gardiner and Reedsport.

There were no reports of injuries to citizens or fire personnel, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
