CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. - A fiery head-on crash killed a woman and injured three other people Monday night.
A 2004 Subaru Legacy station wagon driven by Ruark Miller, 24, of Cave Junction crossed the center line on Highway 199 around 6 p.m. and crashed head-on into an oncoming 1984 Dodge pickup driven by David Wonderling, 48, of Selma, state police said.
The crash started a fire in the pickup. Passersby who stopped to help the crash victims put out the fire, police said.
Wonderling and his daughter, Kaitlyn Smith, 12, were taken by ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass, where they were treated and released.
Another passenger in the pickup, 68-year-old Joyce Willson of Selma, was taken by air ambulance to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, where she died from her injuries, police said.
Miller was taken to Three Rivers hopsital for treatment. He was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, police said.
State police and the Josephine County District Attorney's Office are continuing the investigation.
The crash happened about 4 miles north of Cave Junction.
