Facebook announces groundbreaking for new buildings at Prineville center
PRINEVILLE, Ore. – Facebook will break ground on two new buildings at its Prineville campus in December and January.
The social media company said the Prineville Data Center will be their first custom-built data center.
Construction crews expect to be busy working on the project for another four years. The first building is scheduled to begin serving traffic in 2020 and the second new building will begin serving traffic in 2021.
The two new buildings will total 900,000 square feet with an additional 70,000 square feet for an administrative space connecting the two buildings.
Facebook has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into the project.
The company will open more full-time jobs as the data halls come online.
There are already three Facebook buildings located in Prineville. These buildings occupy a total of 1.25 million square feet.
The project first began in January of 2010.
As of September 2017, the Prineville Data Center had more than 200 full-time employees. Approximately 75 percent of them live in Crook County.
