DRAIN, Ore. - Starting next week if you plan on traveling southbound on Interstate 5 near Drain or head to the Oregon Coast via Highway 38, expect delays.
The southbound off ramp at Exit 162 will be closed for up to 33 days starting Monday, June 16, due to road construction.
Dan Latham with the Oregon Department of Transportation said there will be a short 1.5 mile detour at Curtin exit 163.
Latham said that is a residential area, so drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.
Northbound lanes aren't affected during this phase of construction, so people from the coast traveling up to Eugene and points north can still take Hwy 38. Just plan for the return trip either by the Curtin detour or using the Florence route.
Latham saidthe bigger delays will start sometime after Labor Day this fall when construction starts on the northbound lanes and no detours will be available, only alternate routes.
