Eugene Police: Man shot at high school reunion party

EUGENE, Ore. -- Officers arrested a man for shooting someone early Saturday morning during a fight at a party, Eugene Police said.

The male victim is at the hospital with one gunshot wound and is expected to survive, Eugene Police Sergeant Ron Tinseth said.

Officers were called out to a high school reunion party at a house near Roosevelt and Fergus Ave. at 4:45 a.m. Saturday on reports that a man had been shot, police officials said

Someone drove the victim to the hospital before police arrived at the house.

Witnesses identified the suspected shooter as Brandon Nielson, 22, of Eugene. He was arrested at his home around 8 a.m. Saturday and charged with assault 1.

Both men had been drinking and the fight was over "something about a girl," Sgt. Tinseth said.

The Eugene Police Violent Crimes detectives are helping officers with their investigation.
