According to police, the burglar rummaged through someone's open garage before being confronted by the victim who was home at the time.

"She confronted the guy and he jumped in his truck and taken off. Well it turns out - I had video of it," said Ty Pierce, neighbor of the victim.

Pierce's surveillance system captured his neighbor’s house being trespassed.

Video shows the suspect driving his pickup and spotting the home's open garage.

The burglar turned around, entered the garage, and started loading his truck.

We reached out to the resident who declined to talk on camera, but said she is shaken up from the encounter.

“She's just a great neighbor and she's been a good friend of ours. Actually my cameras kind of point at a couple of other houses here too and I just like it to be safe around here,” said Pierce.

Pierce said he originally bought surveillance cameras to watch over his dogs while his family was on vacation.

“Three days after I put them in, a guy literally tried to break in the front door in the middle of the day. Then I was really glad I had them,” said Pierce.

Police agree that cameras are a great step toward crime prevention, but there are other ways to protect your home, and neighborhood.

“We have crime prevention specialists assigned to each area of the city and we actually go to people's homes and do security surveys. So we can look at your doors, your windows, the locks that you have, and offer you some tips and advice on how to make sure your home is even more secure,” said Debbie Janecek.

The Eugene Police Department offers that service for free.
