      Egan Warming Center seeks volunteers

EUGENE, Ore. - The Egan Warming Center is getting ready for winter by training volunteers to staff the emergency shelters for the homeless.

No one can volunteer for the first time at a Warming Center without first attending a training, organizers said.

New volunteers can attend any one of three upoming trainings, regardless of which site they plan to serve at.

      • Wednesday, November 13 Hosea Youth Site 834 Monroe Street, Eugene (Basement) 6:30-8:30 p.m.
      • Thursday, November 14 Ebbert Memorial Methodist 6th and C Street, Springfield 7-9 p.m.
      • Saturday, November 16 First Christian Church 12th & Oak Street, Eugene 10 a.m. - Noon

The program was inspired by the December 18, 2008, death of Major Thomas Egan, who froze to death on the streets of Eugene during a snowstorm.
